RenFluencers, we have a problem.  As a whole, we currently find ourselves refraining from fully realizing our potential, with respect to ourselves, but also our wardrobes.  However, I feel we are about to turn a corner.  While Zoomers are already out here living their best lives and quitting their jobs in favor of self care, the rest of us sit on the couch wondering how to eschew our reclusive habits when the the outside world still seems somewhat unapprehensible.  Isn’t it time to shed our sweats and self doubt to reveal the winged creatures who have been incubating for months?  I do, of course mean you, and not the moths presently fluttering near your closet.

The fashion film of the summer (aside from Richard Quinn’s brilliant A/W21 short), Cruella, inspires us to leave behind a self who no longer serves us in favor of embracing our inner hedonist.  And to do so while impeccably dressed.  You see, it really is a choice to shine less bright.  People are choosing to not fulfill their potential, and while that is gut wrenching, it is also a fact of life.  The truth is that most people will choose the path of least resistance, which typically results in far less foot pain, and far less glory.  But there are those who will decide to burn harder and shine brighter than the rest, and they will do so will the ambition of a thousand spike-heeled, prickly-tongued televised housewives.

So, it is my prediction that hedonism will be the look of latter 2021.  It will be a slow descent into decadence.  Once we are able to coax ourselves out of the house to attend a few events we will soon remember what it was to look forward to gatherings.  Wasn’t it nice to think about planning your outfit for longer than the time it took to yank it off it’s hanger and wrestle it onto the body?  Once we’ve entered the back into the arena we will realize we’re going to need new shoes, or at the very least, a few trips to the cobbler.  Eventually, we will come out the other end with a better sense of self and probably a tan from all the outdoor activities.
