3 Things to ShoP Consignment for the Fall

The holidays are around the corner, which means a lot of us will be hemorrhaging cash in the coming months. So, if you’re still looking to expand your fall wardrobe, but don’t want to max out your credit, might I suggest skipping the mall in favor of consignment? While you’re there, here are three suggestions for the fall…

  1. Cashmere—one of my favorite consignment purchases ever was a dark grey, leopard print cashmere cardigan. I only paid $20 for it, though the brand retails for almost $200. Cashmere anything is always expensive but once you’re wearing it you understand why. If you live for a sweater, now is the time to buy them up.

Flipping shoes has become a commonplace practice in the sneaker realm and that has now crossed over to designer resale. Choosier consignment boutiques will turn away run down heels and broke-looking booties, even if they are Chanel. Nobody wants to E-6000 their double C’s back onto their shoes. Well, maybe some people do. It’s rough times out there.

  3. Classic Coats—everyone should have at least one or two classically cut coats for the season. I favor a trench or a pea coat, personally. Vintage Burberry trenches are relatively easy to find through thrifting, but you’ll probably find less moth holes and used tissues in the pockets if you shop consignment (hopefully!).
